“He who believes on the Son has everlasting life, and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides upon him”, John 3:36

We read from Scripture that faith is fruit of the Spirit. I will not talk here about the faith that is a gift, which is able to work miracles, but the one that is common unto all believers who live for God out of a pure heart. There are people that claim they believe just as the Jews would claim the same thing before Jesus. We mark that there was always a huge dispute between Jesus and many Jews concerning this issue, seeing Jesus wanted them to perceive they were not believers at all, but lovers of a own cultural background. We find a fierce battle in a form of dispute. This example tells us some of it: “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life. And they are the ones witnessing of Me, (40) and you will not come to Me that you might have life.  (41)  I do not receive honor from men.  (42)  But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you.  (43)  I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me. If another shall come in his own name, him you will receive.  (44)  How can you believe, you who receive honor from one another and do not seek the honor that comes from God only?  (45)  Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you, Moses, in whom you trust.  (46)  For if you had believed Moses, you would have believed Me, for he wrote of Me.  (47) But if you do not believe his writings, how shall you believe My Words?” John 5:39-47 MKJV. This same battle we have to carry out if we would still save some of the actual Christians in the world.

There is a cheap gospel that states that if we believe in God, or that Jesus is the savior, a personal one, then we will never go to hell. Maybe many will go to hell because Jesus is the Savior in fact and because they say He is and did not become saved even knowing it so. Yet, they ascertain that not as a fact, but through words born in a wishful thinking mind alone. But why does this happen, why do people try to buy God off into forgiveness by believing? This faith cannot be an exchanging asset, a buying issue, which claims to own salvation at the promise of God. There are people that believe in God as the devil does and yet preach Him; yet they have not the knowledge the devil has concerning things and, therefore, maintain their ground by having self deceived to the uttermost of illusion concerning real issues. It is sad when reality cannot outrule illusion and when illusion gets real issues and turns them into unreal ones - how it can do it so is a mystery. There must be something wrong in the believing which we we come across in this world, we not knowing why people still have a wrong kind of faith which still keeps them captive in sin and does never conquer the world for them, within them after all. There is a kind of faith that brings no victory, and we must have Jesus dispute with nowadays Jews inside their hearts concerning the same issues all over again. Let’s look into it and, as we follow on, we will see where this kind of wrong faith comes from, and where genuine faith is to be born from.

People believe that, if they believe in Jesus, they have eternal life. Yet, this is not true. The verse we took as a text states that people that have eternal life will believe. Faith that saves is a fruit, remember. Therefore, if eternal life is to be experienced right now, here on earth as in heaven, “the Life that now is” (as Paul put it) 1Tim 4:8, that will make people believe as they should, the right way. People may experience Life for real, or stay believing a lie; will it turn a lie into a truth simply because people are able to believe in it or in Jesus? Eternal Life is something to be experienced right here and that is the only door to a faith that saves. Eternal life comes first and living faith springs out of it as a consequent and as a fruit from it, in man. We may take of the words Jesus uses to cut the truth thinly unto us. Let’s read again: “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life (40) and you will not come to Me that you might have life”. Jesus states that people will not come to Him, because they search the Scriptures! This is something new to me. How can it be possible to stay away from Christ because we know the Bible?

The word eternal means without end, without beginning. But that’s not all there is to it: the word eternal means “constant, permanet”, without ups and downs. This life, once entering a man, causes them to fructify into believing, into loving, into hoping as they should and must, into persevering, into praying as they should, in fact, into all kinds of fruit there is to enable people to live for God, in God.

Christ kept His flock when He had been personally among us. He went away into heaven. But eight days later He sent His Spirit to take the place He has left void. He was among them again, but now from inward out as a constant Life that would become rivers of living water leading them into eternity as well. That made them believers from then on, followers of the highest truth, conquerors, fearless men, who would never die at all and who would never again deny Him when the cock of sin crows again.

Christian, seek not to believe, but rather to have Him for sure – that will guarantee you will believe out of purity at heart and without feign. Is there something between you and God? Have it removed instantly! Jesus said: “If you CAN believe…” Do not try, if you can’t. Come, have eternal Life first, for Jesus stated that “He who believes on the Son”, it is because he “has everlasting life” in him. In fact, if he hadn’t, he wouldn’t be able to believe. Let Him keep it, alone. Amen.
